Suicide of three sisters “Minor girl rapped,” Medical student kidnapped in broad day light, “Village women gang raped,” Sati system still prevalent in India. “ These terrifying news items have become a routine at the breakfast tables. When the whole world was in the lap of deep slumber India was reborn as free India. After two long centuries of slavery, the entire nation celebrated independence with great fervour. But women of India have still not shed their shackles and continue to be slaves. The unfair social customs and evil, gender biasness and brutal atrocities on them are continuing unabated, they are still victim of deprivation, discrimination, favouritism and Nepotism. These are not just the nouns, to reveal the status of women but are tight slaps on the face free India, which account for 50% women population. Our heads hang in shame when women in their rules as daughters, sisters, wives and above all mothers are ill-treated and exploited at each and every step. What can be more shameful than a slogan on an ultrasound clinic which reads – “invest Rs 500 and save Rs 5 lakh,” obviously redressing to sex determination. Inspire of being aware of the fact that sex factor depends. Only upon the father who contributes ’Y’ chromosome for male child, why the birth of female child is considered ominous and fall of gloom fall on family and then mother is blamed for not being given a male child to his family. And that is not all; if female children are born out of a mother subsequently; male threatens to go for a second marriage. If at all they are allowed to take birth, discrimination starts and deprivation continues. In childhood she remains her father’s dictates, in youth to her husband, she grows old, feeble and she has to listen to the dictates of her son. Readers, it is sad and bitter truth that even educated women have accepted this bond age happily they been conditioned over the centuries to feed this way that it will take centuries to recondition them. It is not an easy job to conclude this topic of vital importance, I would like to conclude in the golden words of ‘Maxim Glory’; that,’ when, work is pleasure, life is joy! When work is duty, life is slavery.
